we can awaken the dormant energy
然後我們否定的能量 就可以贏它
and then conquer the negativity.
我們可以贏否定的能力
We can beat the negativity.
請問您在人世間 您覺得錢是否很重要
Do you think money is important in this material world?
如何向天要錢 及如何謝天呢？
How can we ask money from God, and how do we thank God?
啊，錢是很重要的
Ah! Money is very important in this world.
在這個世界沒錢 你就完了，是嗎？
Without money you are finished, right?
不過錢沒有那麼重要
But money is not that important.
看我們自己用在什麼地方
It depends on how we use it.
如果我們用在幫助自己修行 幫助別人修行的話
If we use it to help ourselves and others in spiritual practice,
那個時候錢才是真正地有用
then the money has served a truly noble function.
除了我們要幫助自己的身體
Money has no other purpose than
照顧自己的家庭健康以外 錢，沒什麼大用
to offer us a means to sustain ourselves.
在我們以前 我們黃金的時代
Before us, in the Golden Age,
我們不用錢的 我們是用交換的
we didn't use money. We bartered goods.
比方說我種馬鈴薯 你種芭樂
For example, I planted potatoes and you planted fruit.
大家互相交換
We exchanged.
大家都可以共同用的
We could share.
然後每個人需要多少 都拿出來用
We used what we needed.
沒有今天這個錢
There was no money like we have today.
有錢了以後是比較困難
Since the use of money, things have become more difficult.
大家比較懶惰
Everyone has become lazy,
就想去搶錢 然後去買東西
wanting to steal money to buy things.
不想自己努力出來
They no longer rely on hard work.
不過錢如果我們用在 好的地方
But money is also very helpful
幫助慈悲的地方 也是很有用
only when we use it for a useful purpose like doing charity.
不是說很重要
Money is not very important.
就是因為世界已經走 這個錢的那種系統
Since we have a monetary system in this world,
所以我們不得不跟著走
we have to follow it.
請問師父Dear Master,
天主教或較文明的國家 多半都己廢除死刑
Christian or most developed countries have abolished the death sentence.
這和他們一向重視
Does this have anything to do with
用愛的教育 感化人民有關嗎？
their emphasis on love in their education system?
辦什麼？死刑？
What? Death Sentence?
對，他們已經廢除 就是不再有…
Yes, they abolished the death sentence and...
就是犯罪的人不會殺頭了 （啊！）
No more execution. (Oh!)
然後死刑犯改過後 是否也可以上天堂去玩呢？
Will a criminal go to heaven if he truly repents?
上帝會接受他嗎？ （會，會）
Will God accept him? (Yes. Yes.)
大家還會愛他嗎？ （可以，可以）
Will everybody still love him? (Yes. Yes.)
判死刑 因為有一些國家它有經驗
Some countries have had experience with the death penalty.
比方說英國 現在沒有判死刑了
For instance, the UK doesn't have capital punishment.
因為以前它有判過 幾個冤枉的犯人
The reason is that they made some wrong judgments and
好幾年以後才證明得到 他是真正地太冤枉了
got the evidence a few years later that some were really innocent.
不過那個以後 他已經被殺死了
But they had already been executed.
所以從那一個時候
So from that time,
英國的政府都把那個 死刑的法律取消了
the UK government abolished the death sentence.
這也是很好It's also very good.
即使英國的警察 現在也不會殺人了
Now even the UK police don't kill people.
他沒有槍 英國警察都沒槍
They don't carry guns. The UK police don't carry guns.
所以英國國家比較少的…
Therefore very low...
Crime怎麼講 案子啊
How do you say 'crime'? Murder cases?
比較少命案There are few homicide cases.
即使小偷什麼互相打幾棍
The thieves fight with wooden sticks,
也是不會怎麼樣which don't hurt very seriously.
所以他們那邊所謂的犯徒 也不會有槍的
The criminals don't have guns,
所以很少衝突什麼 到那個命案出來
so there are rarely any disputes resulting in murder and crime.
這是很好的榜樣
This is a very good example.

定業不能轉 修行可以轉
fixed karma cannot be changed, but meditation can change it.

定業不能轉
Fixed karma cannot be changed?
就是這樣 我們有兩種業障
This is what it means. We have two kinds of karma.
業障就是，意思說
Karma is,
我們做什麼行動 它會有報應的意思
As we sow so shall we reap.
我們說好因好報 怎麼樣？壞因壞報？
We say, "Good deed, good reward, bad deed, bad reward."
是不是這樣說？ 比較不文雅
Is that how it is said in Chinese? Not so elegant.
好心有好報Good heart, good reward,
好心有好報，比方說這樣 這個是叫業障
Good heart, good reward, for example. This is karma.
好的業障還是壞的業障
Good karma or bad karma.
我們所有的做人 都有兩種業障
There are two kinds of karma for all humans.
一種就是它存在 所謂的倉庫裡面
One exists in our so-called warehouse,
等我們下一輩子來 就給我們用
which we keep for our next life.
這一世的所謂的業障 就是叫定業
The karma in this life, we call fixed karma.
這個叫備業 這個是叫定業
One is fixed karma, the other stored karma.
還有一種是叫共業
There's also another kind called collective karma.
不過共業就是 不是我們自己的業障
It is different from our personal karma.
備業就是在倉庫裡面等
The stored karma is stored in a warehouse.
定業就是在這個我們的生活 這輩子的生前的時候
The fixed karma is the one which records
該做的，該得的，該受到的 那個是叫定業
what we have to do, or what retribution we get in this life.
這個是很難改
This is difficult to change,
因為我們還沒生出來以前
because before we came into this life,
已經全部統統都安排 寫下來，蓋章好了
everything had been arranged, written down and sealed.
所以說定業不能改
So fixed karma cannot be changed.
不過我們修行觀音法門的人 也可以改
But the Quan Yin Method practitioners may change it.
改…意思說…
It means that...
比方說我們這輩子 應該被人家砍手的
For example, your hand is supposed to be cut by someone in this life
那我們不能改的
and this we cannot change
不過我們在夢中 可以被砍手
but we may have our hand cut off in a dream.
然後起來痛一痛就好了
When we wake up we feel pain for a while,
不會真正地砍這個肉體的手
but our physical hand won't be cut off in real life.
所以能改一點這樣子
So we can change it a little like this.
不是說 不能統統全部換改
It doesn't mean that we can change it completely.
可以縮小放大一點這樣子
We can minimize or maximize a little bit, that's all.
還有什麼？ 就是這樣子啊
Ah, what else? That's it?
啊！共業Yes, collective karma.
還有另一個共業 就是我們共同的業障
Another kind is collective karma or our common karma.
比方說我們在這附近 跟人家住在一起
For example, we live near others,
或是跟台灣跟人家一起
or with someone else in Taiwan.
除了自己個人的業障以外
In addition to our personal karma,
還有跟國家共同分享 國家的好壞的影響
we have to share the good or bad karma of this country.
那是叫共業We call this collective karma.
然後更大的就整個世界
The bigger collective karma is related to this whole world.
如果整個世界有多人修行 光亮滿滿的話
If more people meditate in the world and fill it with light,
我們自己也會收到福報
then we will share the blessing too.
如果整個世界的人If people in this world
心想很否定 動作都很沒有道德的話
think negatively and behave immorally,
我們自己本人 也會受到那個黑暗的影響
we will be influenced by the darkness as well.
請問師父 耶穌基督說
Dear Master, Jesus said,
我是唯一的道路 唯有經過我才可得到永生
I am the only path to Eternity. Only through me will you attain eternal life.
這和觀音法門可得到 解脫永生，是否一樣
Is that the same as the eternal liberation of the Quan Yin Method?
如果一樣 不就是有兩條路嗎？
If it is, then wouldn't there be two ways to eternity?
我是基督徒 可以印心嗎？
I am a Christian. May I receive initiation?
只有一條路 一條路，一條路
There is only one path. Only one path!
所有的人指那條路 你就可以走了
Whoever points to that path, you can follow.
不管是耶穌指這條路 或是釋迦牟尼佛指這條路
It doesn't matter whether it is Jesus or Sakyamuni Buddha
或是某某人指這條路
or anyone else pointing to this path,
只要指對的路 就是一條啦
as long as it is the correct path.
請問師父Dear Master,
修行中 如果遇到幻聽或幻覺
if I hear or see illusions during my meditation,
該如何應對處理呢？ 謝謝
how should I deal with it? Thank you.
幻想？Illusion?
對 幻想或者是看到不正確的
Yes, illusion or false vision.
或者是遇上境界時 如何分辨是佛還是魔
Or how do we distinguish between Buddha and Maya when we have visions?
印心的時候 我會告訴很清楚
I will tell you very clearly during initiation.
不過如果有人沒印心的話 萬一在家裏自己隨便打坐
If you aren't initiated and you meditate at home,
就要記得，那個時候 要念佛或是念耶穌基督
please remember to recite Buddha's or Jesus' name;
這樣祂們會來幫忙
then they will come to help.
如果祂們太忙的話 找我
If they are too busy, then look for me.
我也可以儘量幫忙
I will try my best to help you.
找我比較快啦
It is quicker to find me
因為我們是… 怎麼講？
because we are... how do you say...
我們是… （我們是朋友）
Because we are friends.
啊，不是，不是 Local，Local是怎麼講
Not friends. How do you say 'local' in Chinese?
當地人Local
喔！我們是當地人，比較快
I am the local person, so I can offer immediate help.
親愛的師父Dear Master,
您對目前的科技發展
what is your opinion of the rapidly developing technology in
如生物科技 基因工程的突飛猛進
such fields as biotechnology, genetic engineering,
例如複製生物
and the cloning of animals?
將會給地球和人類 帶來怎麼樣的結果
What will happen to the Earth and the human race?
是福還是禍Is it good or bad?
如果複製人 就是拷貝基因
Will it ever be possible
如果成功，有一天 會有這個可能實現的嗎？
to copy DNA and clone humans?
這看各地方的政府囉 看他通不通過
It depends on whether the various national governments will legalize it or not.
會啦，會有可能啦
Yes, it will be possible.
不過會有兩種版本
But there will be two kinds of copies.
一種是就像機器人一樣 一種是真正的靈魂
One is like a robot. The other is a real soul.
真正的靈魂這是我們的 這拷貝不起來喔
But the real soul is our self. It cannot be duplicated.
請問師父 什麼叫佛性
Dear Master, what is Buddha Nature?
為什麼聖經上沒有說
Why isn't it mentioned in the Bible?
聖經就說天堂在內 一樣
The Bible says, "Heaven is within you." It's the same.
清海無上師 您現在跟以前不太一樣了
Dear Supreme Master Ching Hai, you are different from before.
變得比較美麗了，為什麼？

他服務，就是只有工作 做社會的工作
It means: to devote oneself to serving people
還有很認真地工作
and working hard.
當然，當然 很好，很好
Sure, very good,
那個是很有愛心
very loving.
很得到人家讚嘆
And we will receive praise from others.
不過自己也要找自己的天堂
But we have to find our own heaven
然後幫助別人更有效果
so as to help others more efficiently,
更有能力可以幫助更多人
and then we will become more capable of helping more people.
師父您好Dear Master,
我覺得自己 有嚴重的雙重人格
I feel like I have a serious dual personality.
一邊是光明 一邊是黑暗，是墮落
One is bright. The other is dark and corrupt.
我覺得這都是我
But I feel that is what I am.
我很想改變不好的那一面
I want to change the bad side.
為什麼會這樣 我要如何改變呢？
Why am I like this? How can I change it?
我們都有We all have two sides.
我們都有兩面的 就陰陽嘛
That is Yin and Yang.
或是有…有意志力 可以控制那個否定的方面
We have willpower, which can control our negativity.
很簡單，看到好事 能做馬上就做
Very simple. If you see something good to do, then do it immediately.
知道是壞事 能免馬上就免
If you notice something bad, then try to avoid it.
不管多少價格 知道壞，就免了
Once we know it's bad, we avoid it at all cost.
這麼簡單It's that simple,
嗯…這樣就可以控制自己了
Then we'll be able to master ourselves.
請問師父
Dear Master,
每日放鬆自己一段時間 包括放鬆意識
if we relax the mind for a while every day,
與師父的打坐有何不同
how is it different from the meditation you teach?
嗯…放鬆是精神會舒服啦
Relaxation makes us fresh with energy,
不過打坐我們找佛性 是不一樣哦
while meditation helps us find the Buddha Nature. They're very different.
知道自己本來面目 是最偉大的方法
Knowing our true self is the greatest method.
請問師父
Dear Master,
有時候夢境很快樂 有時候又很悲傷
why is it that sometimes I feel happy and
為什麼會這樣呢？
other times I feel sad in my dreams?
唉呀！人生是這樣嘛
This is human life.
這外面也是這樣子 夢算什麼？
The outside world is like this. Dreams are nothing.
我們生活也是這樣
Our life is also like this.
有時候很快樂 有時候也很悲傷
Sometimes happy, sometimes sad.
我非常想印心
I really want to get initiation.
今天可以請師父 幫我們印心嗎？（可以）
May I get initiation today? (Yes.)

何謂一切有為法如夢幻泡影
What is "Everything is illusive and temporary,
如露亦如電，應作如是觀
like lightning or the morning dew?"
請問佈施與智慧 是前者為重還是後者為重
Offering and wisdom, which is more important?
佈施跟智慧？ 智慧為重
Offering or wisdom? Wisdom is more important.
不過佈施能夠的話 是要做的
If possible, we have to give
因為我們兄弟姊妹 有時候需要我們幫幫一點忙
because sometimes our brothers and sisters need our help.
我們不能說成佛以後就不管
We can't say that after we become Buddha, we don't care for others.
即使釋迦牟尼佛 他天天時時刻刻都有佈施
Even Sakyamuni Buddha did offerings every day, every moment,
他佈施他自己的精神 他自己的身體
offering his spirit, his body,
自己的時間 自己的家庭溫暖快樂
his time and the happiness of being together with his family.
他佈施無上法
He offered the supreme law.
所以我們要學習 耶穌也是一樣
So did Jesus. So we have to learn from them.
請問親愛的師父Dear Master,
現在科技這麼發達
Technology is so developed today.
可以只採用動物的細胞 而不殺生的方式
We can use animal cells, without killing,
複製這些 例如複製羊或複製牛
to clone animals like sheep and cows.
如果吃複製羊跟複製牛的肉 算不算殺生呢？
Is eating the meat of cloned animals considered a kind of killing?
吃他們的呀 （吃這些複製羊的肉）
Eating them? (Eating the meat of cloned sheep)
最好你們問那隻羊啊 就比較清楚
You'd better ask the sheep. The answer would be clearer.

Dear Master,
同性戀的人 可以修觀音法門嗎？
may homosexuals practice the Quan Yin Method?
可以，可以，可以Yes, yes.
同性戀是受上帝歧視的嗎？
Will God discriminate against homosexuals?
當然任何都是上帝生出來的
Everything is created by God.
同性戀的人 他就是在那個男女中間嘛
A homosexual is a person between a man and a woman.
像我們說Transit Transit中文怎麼講
Like in transit. How do you say "transit" in Chinese?
嗯…好，不知道，算了
Don't know? Then forget it.
比方說我們有某某的品質 某某的能力
For instance, if we have certain qualities and abilities,
就可以當女孩子
we can be girls.
我們有某某的品質 某某的能力
If we have such and such qualities and abilities,
就可以當男孩子we can be boys.
有一些人他們 這邊有一點，那邊有一點
Some people have a little of this and a little of that quality,
不完整這邊，也不完整那邊 他在中間
not completely here nor there, somewhere in the middle.
那個時候 他還沒決定當男或是當女
At that time he has not decided to be male or female yet
或是還沒足夠當男 也還沒有足夠當女
or he doesn't have enough to be a man or a woman.
他就當中間
He's just in the middle.
他也是人But he is also a human being.
任何的有人身 都可以，都有佛性
Any being in human form has Buddha Nature,
所以我們都可以成佛 都可以修行
so everyone can practice and become Buddha.

以前無論在看錄影帶時 全身相當難受
I felt uneasy while watching your video tape,
不過自從吃素 打坐半個小時後
but after becoming a vegetarian and meditating half an hour daily
就好多了I feel much better.
可是有時看到您的化身
Sometimes I see your manifestation
也看到一些其它的奇怪東西 會感到害怕、恐懼
and sometimes, something weird. This scares me.
這代表的是什麼意思呢？ 是好的還是壞的
What does it mean? Is it good or bad?
看到師父化身就好
It's good to see Master's manifestation.
看到奇奇怪怪的東西 就是奇奇怪怪的
If you see something weird, it's weird.
還不夠乾淨 嗯…多修行，多修行
It means you are not pure enough. Meditate more. Meditate more.
請問師父Dear Master,
我們人類被無知 矇騙了五千年
ignorance has cheated us for 5000 years.
請問師父，我們應該如何 走出無知的世界
How can we leave this ignorant world?
請師父開示Please advise.
要印心 簡單
Just get initiation. That simple!
請問清海無上師
Dear Supreme Master Ching Hai,
有無任何證據 可以證明輪迴說
is there any evidence to prove reincarnation?
如果有輪迴 如果每個人都成佛，不輪迴
If there is, then if everyone becomes Buddha and no longer reincarnates,
那麼人口 是不是還會增加呢？
will the population increase?
輪迴是有啦 不過我們不用
Reincarnation exists but we don't need it.
本來做人就已經很高等了
We've already reached a high level as a human being.
就要繼續上去 很少會下來
We should continue to go up. We rarely come down.
不過即使繼續上去
Even if it is so,
不過有時候因為我們 自己沒有注意得好
if sometimes we don't concentrate well,
沒有繼續修行的話 也會停留在人那裏
if we don't continue meditating, we will stay in the human level,
或是會去像阿修羅的地方 停留很久很久
or go to the Astral World and stay there for a very long time.
即使上了一等 不過要留級
Even if we go one level higher, we have to regress.
留在那邊沒有什麼大作用
It is no big use staying there.
所以是要修行開悟 然後趕快就衝了
So we need to practice, get enlightened and move on quickly!
成佛了以後，很少… 沒有多少人成佛
Not so many people become Buddha,
所以不怕人數增加
so don't worry about the population increase.
請問師父Dear Master,
聖經說我們出生就有原罪 請師父開示
the Bible says we were born with original sin. Please comment.
原罪就是 以前說啦，備業啦
Original sin is the stored karma that I've mentioned already.
你們生生世世做不對的東西 他會記錄起來
It records the wrong things one has done in previous lives
我們來的時候，一起帶來 這叫原罪
and brings it to this life. This is the so-called original sin.
上師您好Dear Master,
目前有一本書「大限」
there is a book called "The World War III,"
提及一個人修行到相當程度
which mentions that those who practice and reach a certain level
可以看見宇宙萬物 未來的變化
may see the changes of the universe in the future.
從今年5月10號 到公元2002年
From May 10 of this year to the year 2002
這段期間是世界末日審判期
is the period of Final Judgment.
又來了Again?
而且世界末日He mentioned that
他指的這個從 今年2000年到西元2002
the time from 2000 to 2002 is
這段期間是世界末日審判期
the Final Judgment of the world
而且台灣島 會在這段期間內沈沒
and that the island of Taiwan will sink during this period.
這是真的嗎？
Is it true?
不，不對 他看時間差了
No. He is looking at the wrong time.
我們台灣的人這麼好 那會有什麼事
What could happen to the nice Taiwanese people?
嗯…最善良的
The most kind-hearted.
啊…剛才最後這個問題 就是對你們最重要的
Ah, is this last question the most important for you?
是不是？ （對，對台灣島）
Yes? (Right! For the island of Taiwan.)
是嗎？ 我知道啦，不過…
Yes? I know, but...
嗯…當來褔報或是業障 是在我們手上嘛
The future blessing or karma is in our hands.
大家如果有懷疑心的話 有恐怕心的話
If you have any doubts or fears,
就多往內邊 求佛、求上帝幫助
please listen inwardly and pray to God and Buddha.
天天自己想上帝 想佛、想好事
Think about God and Buddha every day. Do something positive every day.
替別人著想 替別人做好事
Think about others, do something good for others.
這樣子的話 我們這個褔報可以勝過業障
If we do this, our blessing will cover the karma.
萬一他講對的話 也可以突破
In case he is correct, we may break through.
多能夠吃素的話 什麼時候方便，就多吃素
Try to keep a vegetarian diet as much as it is convenient for you.
要疼愛動物 要疼愛別人
Love animals, love others.
要幫助隔壁 要幫助困難的人
Help your neighbors. Help those in difficulty.
要同一體Be one with everybody.
天天大家這樣同一體 同一個理想的話
To be one like this and have the same ideal every day,
沒什麼事可以發生的
nothing will happen. OK?
