Special Reports----Echoes Of The Australian Retreat

By Sister Initiate Hsu Yun Ji, Chiayi, Formosa

Every time when there is a retreat scheduled, I, of course, want to go. However, since I have to take care of my child, I cannot fulfill my wish every time. Recently, when the retreat was organized in Australia, my husband said understandingly: "As it is Mothers' Day, of course you should go to celebrate Master's birthday and also Mothers' Day." Therefore, I attended the retreat happily.

As a result of fatigue, the night before the retreat I suddenly became ill with shingles. Although it was very painful, my husband and little child were very loving, and took care of me meticulously. They even helped me to pack my luggage so that I could attend the retreat without worries.

During the retreat, I really forgot who I was and that I was ill. I only concentrated on the compassionate love of Master and shared in Her infinite love and patience when She answered fellow practitioners' questions. That kind of love reverberated deep in my heart.

On the second night of the retreat, there was a fierce wind and torrential rain storm. My outer tent covering was blown away and some rain seeped inside the tent. I was woken up in the middle of the night by the cold weather. Surprisingly, I had recovered from the shingles without noticing it. So now I know the best prescription for shingles: More meditation, a happy heart, and cold therapy (i.e. a little rain inside one's tent with temperatures of 4°C-5°C outside). Ha! Ha!
