Special Reports----Echoes Of The Australian Retreat

When we are alone, that is the time we can face our true Selves.
When there is no one to depend on, that is when we can be closer to Master and to God.

By Sister Initiate Liang-Yu, Taipei, Formosa

I was full of excitement and expectation to attend the Sydney 4-day retreat. Yet, quite unexpectedly, the greatest gain for me from this retreat was to understand the meaning of loneliness.

Being in unfamiliar surroundings and in low spirits, and also all my friends were busy taking care of retreat affairs, I was often alone during the retreat. Consequently, I realized that if one is able to be relaxed, be true to oneself, and enjoy the inner bliss while in a crowd, that's true happiness.

We can face our true Selves only when we are alone, when there is no one to depend on; then we are much closer to Master and God, and then we can understand many more things. On the spiritual path, aside from Master's transformation body guiding us along the way, we are ultimately all by ourselves. We can forge ahead only when we are not afraid of being alone. So why not enjoy the time being with oneself and enjoy the happiness within?

However, only through working diligently at our spiritual practice can we become more confident and perfect in every way, enabling one to perceive things through eyes of equanimity regardless of the circumstances we find ourselves in. This is the elevated aspect of freedom I long for, and I thank Master for giving me the chance during the 4-day retreat to understand this.
