- Top Five Most Commonly Asked Questions About Ingredients
- Are there any animal by-products such as lard or pork in any SUBWAY® bread products?
The origin of the fats used in our bread products (i.e. oils, and mono- and diglycerides) are vegetable- or soybean-based. Our deli-style roll does contain whole egg and our wheat bread does contain honey. Additionally, the enzymes contained in some of our breads are vegetable-based.- What is the origin of enzymes used in the American cheese?
Enzymes in our cheese are derived from either animal, microbiological or synthetic origin. Source of origin is based on supply to the manufacturer at the time of production.- What is t/he source of whey solids that are contained in some of the SUBWAY® salad dressings? Whey solids are derived from animal sources.
- Does the ingredient Red Dye No. 40 cause the red coloring in SUBWAY Seafood & Crab®, a processed seafood and crab blend?
No. The red coloring is derived from Carmine, a natural coloring pigment.
Do SUBWAY® sandwich shops use monosodium glutamate (MSG) as a flavor enhancer in any of its products?- We do not add MSG to any of our products. However, other ingredients such as hydrolyzed or textured vegetable proteins and/or autolyzed yeast are used in some of our products. These ingredients contain "free glutamates" which have been known to produce sensitivities similar to those caused by MSG in particular individuals. Free glutamates can also be found in natural food sources such as tomatoes, cheese and mushrooms.
